Spring cleaning

Last weekend we did the spring cleaning of our terrace, the outdoors living room.
Technically speaking it is not a spring clean as we are at the beginning of the tropical “winter”.
The hurricane season is over, the temperature dropped under 30°C and the nights are cool (around 20°C) without air conditioning.

The beginning of this dry season is also the green light for building and road works. No surprise that a “Home and Garden Fair” was hosted over the last 11 days. Although we didn’t have a real shopping list we went, as did 120.000 visitors (out of 800.000 inhabitants of the island). We enjoyed the busy atmosphere and felt like home. We found a solution for the wasps who are building nests in our garden and also something that would expel birds from areas around the house.

Since our arrival on La Montagne we had problems with the two pigeons who were brought here by the previous tenant. Despite their effort to bring their pets to friends in the city before their departure, the pigeons (and the rabbits) found their way back to our/their house (8 km apart and 400 meters higher). I think the pigeons might even have been back first before the residents.

Pigeons pooh a lot and I have to clean everything on our terrace almost daily. When I found at the fair a spray that could disorientate birds (= keep them away from our terrace), I was filled with joy and started the spring clean. Unfortunately our pigeon (the second one was killed by the fan) is not impressed by the smell of the spray. The only way to scare her of, is to keep the fan on.
